The beacons are waterproof and sealed allowing them to be used in any weather conditions. The batteries inside them are guaranteed for a year but we have found that they usually last a lot longer. If a beacon stops working at any time you scan it and deactivate it, let us know and we will send a replacement out with a new lanyard, This is all included in the £20 per year. We appreciate that you may buy a number of tags and if one stops working it would preclude using it on the trip. Therefore with every contract and in the initial setup, we provide 5 extra tags and lanyards that can be used while swapping over deactivated tags.

We are very environmentally aware and some customers have questioned disposing of a tag once the battery has run out. Triptag beacons contain a sealed lithium battery and must not be disposed of in general waste or standard battery recycling bins. As the battery cannot be removed, the complete unit should be taken to a local household recycling centre and placed in the small electricals or battery-containing devices section for safe handling and recycling.
